A little background on this article:
James J. Hill came to Spokane and
told the city fathers that if they gave
him the land for his rail yard and
tracks through Spokane he would
build his railroad through Spokane
and that competition means lower
prices, but he did not lower the price
for shipping freight to the east. The
ICC eventually lowered the price.
